Holistic Approach to Orthodontics
Dr. Steve likes to take a holistic approach to orthodontics, particularly in growing patients. Getting an expander or braces can make a significant change, not only in the alignment of teeth, but also improve the function of the bite and even make more space for tongue placement and improve an individual’s nasal breathing.

Expansion & Non-extraction Orthodontics
Expansion has made a big change in how we approach orthodontics. As a result, most treatments can be completed without the removal of permanent teeth. Expansion of the upper jaw bone is most effective and useful around the time the permanent incisors erupt, which is typically around age 7 or 8.
Correctly timed expansion of the upper jaw gives space for eruption of the upper permanent teeth, but also creates clearance to improve the alignment of the lower teeth as well!
Not every patient needs expansion at an early age to get a great non-extraction outcome. The best way to know the right plan for you or your child is to come in for a free consult.

Airway Conscious Orthodontics
Did you know that the upper jaw bone is the base of the inside of the nose? When we expand the upper jaw bone it reduces resistance to breathing through the nose. Improved nasal breathing and sleep quality, reduction in snoring and reduction in tooth grinding are all on the list of quality of life improvements that we see from correctly timed expansion in a growing child.
Dr. Steve’s passion for airway conscious orthodontics began early in his career and has transformed the way he practices orthodontics. It is one of the ways that orthodontics can affect the overall well-being of an individual. Come in to learn more!
