Teen Orthodontist Norwalk
Our aligners are crafted in-house by our Norwalk orthodontists and consist of a series of nearly invisible and removable trays that gradually guide your teeth to their ideal location. They are custom designed for each individual patient.
Through a series of customized aligners that fit snugly over the teeth, your teen’s teeth are gradually guided to their ideal locations. Trays will be switched out every one to three weeks, depending on the required level of movement, until the ideal smile and bite alignment have been reached.
How Many Hours a Day Do The Aligner Trays Need To Be Worn?
To work as effectively as possible, the aligner trays must be worn 20 to 22 hours a day, otherwise, treatment cannot progress as it should. Trays should only be removed when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.
How Often Do You Visit The Orthodontist During Treatment?
On average, our patients visit our Norwalk or Westport offices every six weeks. These appointments are important so that we can monitor your progress, and make any adjustments that may be needed. It also gives you an opportunity to ask questions or voice concerns.
Is Orthodontic Treatment With Aligners Painful?
There will be some slight discomfort associated with your Norwalk orthodontic treatment, especially as you move to each new aligner set. We recommend using Tylenol or Advil to make you more comfortable.
Are Braces or Aligners More Effective?
Depending on the specific issue we are treating, aligner treatment can be as efficient as regular braces when worn as recommended. However, there may be some instances where braces are better suited to handle the specific orthodontic issue.
We Provide Braces For Teens Norwalk At Westwalk Orthodontics Group
Your Westport & Norwalk orthodontist will discuss your treatment options with you at your initial consultation and will let you know if aligners may be a feasible option. For some issues, such as patients who present with a narrow upper jaw, aligners may not be able to provide the results needed to improve the smile and bite.
Other issues, such as extreme crowding that require extraction of permanent teeth, or underlying skeletal discrepancies, may not be treated with aligner therapy.

Do clear aligners really work for teens?
Orthodontic treatment with Invisalign, also known as clear aligner therapy, is definitely an option for teens and does provide outstanding results. However, the patient will have to wear their aligners for 20-22 hours a day.
What are the Pros and Cons of Aligners?
You should definitely consider the pros and cons of aligners. Primarily, patients like this option because the trays are removable and clear, so they provide a discreet option to their treatment. Still, they could stain when you drink some beverages like black tea or cola soda, and they cannot withstand chewing forces, so take them off if you are going to eat anything.
